Visit to RAF Northolt

Our recent expedition to RAF Northolt left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds. In the crisp January air, the Polword students embarked on a poignant exploration of history and heritage.

RAF Northolt, steeped in the legacy of the Polish Fighter Wing during the Second World War, graciously unveiled its storied past to our group of language enthusiasts. The small museum, a testament to the station's immense pride in its Polish Heritage, became a bridge connecting us to the valiant efforts of the 303 Kościuszko Polish Squadron during the Battle of Britain

.

The insightful talk delivered by Mr. Richard Kornicki CBE, a former Polword student and chairman of the Polish Air Force Memorial Committee, added a personal touch to the historical narrative. Mr. Kornicki's dedication to preserving the remembrance of the Polish contribution to the war effort shone through, creating a poignant connection with our group.

Following this enriching experience, we were led by our host, Phillip Dawe MBE, into the meticulously restored Operations Room. A space pulsating with the echoes of history, it encapsulated the gravity of decisions made hour by hour during wartime. Two hours slipped away seamlessly as we immersed ourselves in the atmosphere of a bygone era, yet our thirst for knowledge remained unquenched.

As we depart RAF Northolt, the echoes of its historic significance linger in our minds, and we find ourselves eagerly anticipating a return visit. The day was not just an exploration of the past; it was a journey that deepened our appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions made by those who shaped the course of history.

Phillip also sent us a link to a great film that was produced by the AFMC in August 2020. The link:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lhoytCWsEY I am sure, you will love it.
