Course Content |
The students after this course will know how to express in Polish the following notions and functions:
expressing opinions
comparing people, things, states
forming generalizations
describing a person, situations and states
expressing one’s emotions (positive and negative)
giving a justification
expressing one’s preferences
expressing one’s wishes, expectations and suggestions, suspicions, protest etc
plans for the future
expressing compliment, disappointment
giving advice, encouraging or discouraging people
greeting and congratulations
The set of notions and functions will be taught and practiced within the following subject and situations:
personality
work
everyday life
education
life in the city
architecture
transportation
village and countryside
animals and plants
family and friends
relationship and emotions
household
devices
inventions
health
travel
holidays
religion
literature and press
cinema and TV
mass media

The students will be acquainted with following aspects of Polish grammar:
cases and declination (nouns, adjectives, pronouns)
usage of conjunction
adverbials
ordinal and cardinal numbers
aspect of verbs (imperfective and perfective)
forming and usage of past, present and future tense
comparison
non-personal forms; the reflective voice; feminine nouns
adverbs
conditionals
impersonal verbs
forming and usage of gerunds
participles
passive voice
imperative mood
prepositional phrases
dependant clause
reported speech

Course objectives |
Lower Intermediate course is predicted for students who have taken at least 120 hours of polish language.
The course is based on the textbook "Po polsku 2" by A.Burkat & A. Jasinska and includes a wide range of vocabulary and a thorough study of grammar, as well as some useful information on Poland and its culture.
The emphasis of this course is on speaking and listening skills.
