Course Content
The students after this course will know how to express in Polish the following notions and functions:
  • giving advice
  • asking about specific pieces of information
  • expressing admiration and paying compliments
  • expressing disappointment and discontent
  • encouraging and persuading others
  • describing and comparing people and objects
  • expressing necessity
  • asking about permission
  • giving one’s permission
  • making offers and promises
  • beginning conversations and expressing one’s opinions

  • expressing certainty and uncertainty

  • expressing approval and disapproval
  • criticizing and reacting to criticism
  • The set of notions and functions will be taught and practised within the following subjects and situations:

  • The students will be acquainted with advanced aspects of Polish grammar:
  • imperative and conditional moods
  • modal verbs and impersonal verb forms
  • adverbials of manner
  • the syntax of numerals
  • the inflection of numerals in all the cases
  • time expressions
  • the adjectival inflection of the nouns and surnames
  • conditional sentences
  • the names of the countries in the Genitive case
  • reported speech
  • the Dative case in the singular and plural
  • the inflection of negative pronouns
  • the usage of the Locative case in prepositional phrases
  • the inflection of interrogative pronouns
  • Course objectives
    Intermediate course is predicted for students who have taken at least 220 hours of polish language.
    The course is based on the textbook "Hurra Po polsku 3" by A.Burkat, A.Jasinska, M.Malolepsza and A.Szymkiewicz and includes a wide range of vocabulary as well as some useful information about Poland and its culture.
    The emphasis of this course is on speaking and listening skills.
