Course Content |
The students after this course will know how to express in Polish the following notions and functions:
introducing oneself and other people
greetings and farewells
national identification
formal and informal forms of address
thanking
apologising
asking for and giving information
describing one's appearance and character
expressing spatial relations
confirming, agreeing, inviting, offering, accepting and refusing, expressing likes and dislikes
talking about the past
The set of notions and functions will be taught and practised within the following subjects and situations:
name - age - nationality - professions - interests - everyday routine - free time - family - numbers - food - beverages - café - restaurant - street - city - railway/bus station - post office - time - telephone discussion
The students will be acquainted with basic Polish grammar:
the most common cases (nominative, accusative, instrumental)
typical grammar constructions
prepositions
cardinal numbers
adjectives
forming past tense

Course objectives |
Polish for Beginners is an introductory course.
It is predicted for those who have no previous knowledge of Polish.
It covers the basic grammar structures and introduces basic vocabulary necessary in everyday situations. It also presents a summarised introduction to Polish culture, traditions and Poland as it is today.
The course is based on the textbook "Po polsku 1" by M.Malolepsza and B.Szymkiewicz, and includes a wide range of vocabulary and a thorough study of grammar, as well as some useful information on Poland and its culture.
